Knitted Scarves

Filed in: Accessories, DIY, Fashion

As long as I have covered both knits and scarves, let us look at knitted scarves. Colorful scarves is a must this fall, but most scarves will work. As seen on models:

At Lulette you find many nice message scarves, and you can even create your own. They come in all sorts of colors, so you’re bound to find something you like. These are not cheap though and cost around $70:

Knitting a scarf is the easiest knit project in the world, and mostly what I end up with no matter what I start knitting. Buy some cheap yarn in you favorite colors and make use of that time spent in front of the TV. If you’re a little more advanced, how about a digestive system scarf? It’ll at least attrac attention when wrapped around your neck! (I thought it was so funny that I just had to post it. Sorry!)

Flea Hunting… Again

Filed in: Fashion, Secondhand

This weekend I ended up with a bunch of silly things, like a hat that folds into pocket size…

foldable hat foldable hat

…sunglasses that make me look like a crazy person…

sunglasses shades

…and a pink shower cap with polkadots.

All of which I bought cause I though they were funny.

The only nice thing I ended up with was a Burberry jacket for my boyfriend. I paid $3 for it so it was quite a bargain. If it hadn’t been too big for me I’d have kept it myself; he already has a Burberry trenchcoat. Life isn’t fair.

So now I sit here looking like a mental patient practicing tricks with my foldable hat.

Scarves all Around

Filed in: Accessories, Designers, Fashion, Secondhand, Trend Alerts

Wearing a scarf is an easy and unexpencive way to update an outfit. There’s no ends to how you can wear the scarves. Here are some ideas:

Buying a designer scarf is cheaper than buying a designer outfit, and you can still get that right look. But for girls like me secondhand stores is a blessing. I have found many great silk scarves and even a couple of Chanel scarves.

Stella Picks

Filed in: Designers, Fashion

When I’m looking at the entire collection, what I’m thinking is that this is not a collection for everybody. Many of the shapes are best suited for tall and skinny people, like the tulip skirt and the oversized trench. I have found some favorites, and I hope they’ll look good on me. The zip pants is a must. They will look great with heels when you want to dress down for a party. I also love the satin all in one, allthough I have my doubts if this will look good in the end… It’s exciting though and different from everything else I have. And the chiffon dress is beautiful.

I do love the colors and the fabrics. But even though there are some items I probably will buy, there are none that I feel like I can’t live without. (A feeling I often have when it comes to clothes…) We’ll see what I end up with in the end…

Knitted Hats

Apart from being practical knitted hats look pretty good.

Knit is so right this fall, so why not make it yourself?

First of all you have to learn how to knit. Once that is under control you have a bunch of websites to choose from that has loads of free knitting patterns. I don’t have full control over the best websites, but I do know about a lovely site called Knitty. Marnie MacLean has lots of hat patterns among other things. Craftown is huge and you’ll find endless amounts of patterns and projects, but it’s not very pleasant to look at.

Happy knitting!

Stella McCartney for H&M Update

Stella McCartney for H&M Stella McCartney for H&M Stella McCartney for H&M

I got a tip from Linur, and it’s actually a little silly that I didn’t think of it myself, but there are actually pictures of Stella’s collection at the H&M website. Just some of the pieces are pictured for now, but from the 27th of October you can see it all. This makes it a little easier to make a plan of what to buy (and how much money to put aside). For those of you that haven’t got an H&M store nearby, you can order the collection online from 14th of November. They start to sell it in stores the 10th of November, so some items may be sold out before they are sold online…

Secondhand Shopping

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Links, Secondhand, Shopping

For those of you that don’t have any secondhand stores around, or simply want a better selection to choose from, I have gathered a few online stores where you can buy vintage clothing and accessories without spending too much.

Secondhand Shopping Secondhand Shopping Secondhand Shopping

I’ve already mentioned Sveet Cotoure, which is an incredibly affordable and beautiful webstore. $15 for a vintage Oscar De La Renta; you can’t beat that!

Adore Vintage has a wider selection, and is also supplied with lookbooks which help you choose your style. Here you can keep track of everything from street style to celeb style. The prices range from about $20 for necklaces to about $40 for jackets.

At Yesterdays Moment you can also make some great deals. Here you can get a necklace for about $5 and a dress for about $20, allthough prices vary a lot.

Ninja Vintage sells skirts for about $15 and purses for $10.

At Vintage Amore you can get a nice pair of silver Steve Madden shoes for $30 or a dress for around $25.

Debutante Clothing is a bit more expencive than the others on some things, but you can also find some good stuff here. Dresses costs down to $20 (but also up to $110) and accesories around $20.

Some people sell their own wardrobe online as soon as they’re sick of something. Here you can scoop in and make some good purchases. Shop My Closet is one of these, and here you can get everything from designerwear to vintage clothes. Prices range from $10 for a vintage shirt to $80 for a Marc Jacobs jacket.

A similar webstore is Clothes Captioned. Here prices are bout $5 for a t-shirt and $15 for a pair of shoes. They’ve got stuff for both guys and girls.

This is just a selection. If you know of any good ones worth mentioning, let me know!

Broken Necklace Becomes New

Filed in: DIY, Fashion, Jewelry

broken necklace plastic beads

I broke this plastic bead necklace that I bought at a flea market for a dollar, and I figured I’d make it a little nicer when putting it back together. So I bought some ribbon, and ended up with this:

I simply put the beads on the ribbon and tied a know between each. I always try to turn broken things into something new.

Street Fashion

Filed in: Fashion, Links, Street Fashion

I am planning to add a street fashion part to the site, and I have barely started by taking pictures of people at parties. This may take a while though, first of all cause I’m very busy, secondly cause I think it’s a little embarassing taking pictures of strangers…

While I work on getting that part up and running I have had a look at different websites with street fashion from around the world.

Street Fashion helsinki finland

Hel Looks feautures pictures of street style in Helsinki. Apparently there are many who are inspired by Japanese street fashion, but there are also some very original looks.

For Japanese street fashion, check out Fashion in Japan for those outfits that aren’t way out there. Tokyo Street Style is a little better, though.

The Cobra Snake has party shorts.

2 Threads is a website that offers weekly mails containing fashion snapshots. You don’t even have to remember stopping by the site!

Several magazines and newspapers keep track of what ordinary people are wearing. Many of you have probably already seen the sections in Style.com and Elle. Also New York Times features street fashion once in a while.

Other good ones?
