From Pants to Shorts
I’ve been dying for a nice pair of shorts but I’ve been broke for a while now, and I haven’t found the perfect pair anyway. So I decided to turn an old pair of pants that I wasn’t wearing into shorts. This was so easy that I had to pass on the wisdom. It took a few seconds to do, and turned out great!

I started by measuring how long I wanted them to be. Added an inch and cut off the extra. First I sewed with zig zag stiches around the edges. I folded the fabric up to the length I wanted it and then I sewed with regular stitches as straight as I could. It doesn’t even show that I did it myself. I decided to make them a little long at first, and then I can just make them shorter if I feel like that after a while.

I did this a few weeks ago too. Had some white cargo-type pants and cut them way short - perfect for summer! I really like yours - they will be nice with some leather sandals.

It’s almost cheaper to buy pants and sew them into shorts at the moment. Shorts are so trendy that they end up costing alot. My next pair is going to be really short. :) I better show off my legs while I’m young!

I agree about the cost-effectiveness of this practice. I turned a pair of my boyfriend’s old wool trousers into short pants two winters ago and love wearing them with boots. The boy-cut in the hips makes them fit more like English-school-boy shorts, too.

I’ve never tried mens pants, but I love the shape when other girls wear them. I think my boyfriend and I have the same hip size, so I can try out his. ;)

[…] …and scored me the jacket that came with the pants I made into shorts, and it was on sale. On days like this shopping is so much fun! The two pieces together looks a little schoolboyish, but I think that can be fun. […]
