Pink Pouffyness
Sick and tired of all the problems that occurs when moving a website, it’s good to take the time to do something else. I saw these cute tulle collars and “skirts” on pictures from a Norwegian fashion show. I don’t know who the designer is cause Norwegian newspapers seldom informs about that, they’re mostly into boobs and such.

I tried making my own. Luckily it was very easy or else I would have pulled my hair off after all the website trouble. I chose a slightly softer fabric that made mine less pouffy, but I still feel it has some of the same look. I’m not sure if they can be used for anything else than spicing up that sexy underwear, but they might work on top of another skirt or maybe even to jeans. Since mine is less pouffy it also works as a small cape.

What:
At least 40 inches of fabric (tulle)
Two ribbons. One to fit half your waist. One that can be tied around your waist.
How:
First I cut a ribbon in about the half of my waist. Then I pinned strips of fabrics that was 2-3 times wider than the ribbon. You have to fold and pin and fold and pin until the whole fabric strip covers the ribbon. I did this in three layers and I made the fabric strips a little wide so that I could adjust it afterwards. The widest part (the layer closest to the body) was about 15 inches after I was done cutting.
The next step was to sew these layers to the ribbon. When done I put the long ribbon on top the first ribbon, making sure that the ends were the same on each side. I sewed this ribbon with nice and straight stitches to hide the first ribbon and the ugly sewing. Now put the “skirt” on and cut it in wanted shape and length. I made the three layers in different lengths, leaving the top layer the shortest one. At the end I cut the ribbon ends bias and burned them with a lighter so that they won’t fringe. The fabric itself needs no fixing as it doesn’t fringe.

I like the material you chose much better than the designers. A lot more wearable and I think it would look great as a caplet, like you said.

Thanks. :) I have to test this creation out a bit. When I was trying to sleep yesterday I got an idea that it might look good in black to wear over skinny yeans as a kind of 80’s rock look. I think I even have some black tulle hidden away…

Lovely! I’d like to see a picture of how you’d wear it. -Allie

I’ll see what I can do. I’ll make another one in black and try matching them with different oufits. :)

I second Allie’s request. I’d love to see how you wear your pretty cape. And I think having it in black is a great idea too!

Wow - you can wear this so many ways! I think the nude color would look great with a vintage-y black dress as a loose wrap that drapes around the arms at elbow height — a very 1930s silhouette. Great job!

I found my black tulle yesterday only to see that it was too little. I am going to the store today to buy more, and then I’ll put aside some play-around-in-the-closet time. :)

[…] Filed in: Fashion, Accessories, DIYAfter my previous post on the pink pouffy cape/skirt, I decided to try out more styles. This time I ended up with a black version in thicker tulle. I used four layers, not three as last time. I discovered some new things: The tulle should be something in the middle of the soft and the regular. At least the holes should be smaller to make it a little darker. More than four layers would give a nicer color, but would also make it too thick with regular tulle. With thicker tulle it doesn’t work as a cape unless for Halloween (quite a dramatic effect). You should also sew the different layers together at the ends to make it flatter on the sides than in the back. Here’s the result: […]
