More Pouffyness

Filed in: Accessories, DIY, Fashion

After my previous post on the pink pouffy cape/skirt, I decided to try out more styles. This time I ended up with a black version in thicker tulle. I used four layers, not three as last time. I discovered some new things: The tulle should be something in the middle of the soft and the regular. At least the holes should be smaller to make it a little darker. More than four layers would give a nicer color, but would also make it too thick with regular tulle. With thicker tulle it doesn’t work as a cape unless for Halloween (quite a dramatic effect). You should also sew the different layers together at the ends to make it flatter on the sides than in the back. Here’s the result:

So, as you see this is kind of a quirky garment. I like to think of it as a flirt with the 80’s, but it would take guts to wear. A birds tail for those who like to stand out, but not very practical. If you like it I can assure it was easy to make, and takes less than 30 minutes. It cost me about $4. I think I’d wear it mostly for fun… With softer tulle you would get a look that stands out a little less. And here’s the first one I made worn with an outfit:

As a cape I put it together with a night gown worn as a dress. It also works for jeans or mostly anything else you would wear a cape for. As a skirt it’s harder to work with and I just put it over the same dress. I have faith that it will work somehow, I just don’t know how yet… At least I have an extra capelet while I figure it out… This one cost me about $2 cause the fabric was cheaper.
