Undiscovered eBay Gem

Filed in: Fashion, Links, Secondhand, Shopping

Or at least that’s what I felt it was when I bought a gorgeous dress for around $12 yesterday and no one bid against me. Mint Vint has a beautiful selection of vintage clothes, mostly dresses, all starting at low prices. Now I’m probably ruining for myself by sharing this one, but I have to cut back on my shopping anyway. As soon as I get the dress the permanent eBay sellers list will be updated with my experiences with the seller. In the meantime check it out, all these dresses start at right under $15.

I have found several new eBay sellers that I will add to the list later, and I have also been buying some stuff so more sellers will also get some words about what I think about them.

DIY: Belts

Filed in: Accessories, DIY, Fashion

belt diyI came to think about a project I did a couple of years back that is super simple and very right at the moment. The waist belt is maybe the most important accessory right now. I have myself been looking for a perfect red one without luck. So why not make them yourself?

First you need an old belt buckle like on the picture. Those are very easy to find secondhad, either as broken belts or pieces that are lying around in the store. They don’t cost much either. If you’re lucky you may even get it for free. I’ve also seen eBay sellers sell lots of these buckles. Then you need a ribbon or strip of fabric or leather in needed length, width and color. You can buy the ribbon in any store with fabrics and it will cost you about a dollar. It shouldn’t be narrower than the middle bar of the buckle, but it doesn’t matter if it is a bit wider.

belt diy Now all you have to do is sew one end of the fabric onto the middle bar of the buckle. It doesn’t have to look nice and you can do this by hand (it will be covered when worn anyway). Then put it around your waist and pull the ribbon through the buckle. Easy as that. Only your imagination will stop you now. It’s so cheap that you can make one to match every single shoe, dress and bag you own. If you don’t find a buckle in wanted color you can always paint it with a suitable paint or spray.

belt diyMy examples aren’t the best, but at the time I thought this would be a nice lace over lace kind of look which didn’t work out well. Now I can see endless opportunities for this and I will post pictures as soon as I make better ones.
