Baggy Dresses
Filed in: Celebs, Designers, Fashion, Street Fashion, Trend Alerts
It’s not the first time I write about this trend, but since then I’ve come to realize that I am utterly in love with the look. I’ve already been drooling over the baggy dresses from Chloè’s last collections. And I recently came across a photo on Vintage Amore Forum that had me jump up down in excitement. Also Mary-Kate and Ashley have been sporting this trend, although I am not so sure I like their attempt.
No matter how much I love this look I can’t help but feel that it’s not for me. Even though I am both tall and slim I feel really short and fat when I wear something oversized like that. Still, I want to so bad! I have decided to pull it off somehow though. First I just need one of those dresses!

Chloè, LA Fashion Week street style and the Olsen twins.

I know my boyfriend would laugh his ass off if I wore a baggy dress. I think they’re cute, but I love to have a cinched waist. I really like the silver dress though. It reminds me of that silver shirt I bought.

I think my boyfriend might come with some kind of gay comment like “you look couture” or something. (I thought he was gay before we got together.) I know what you mean though; I also love a cinched waist. That photo in your forum made me think differently about baggy dresses though.

I like the look too, but my short ass will have to stay as far away from it as possible…I’ll leave this to the trendy gals!

I wish I could pull them off. I am too short I think!! (5′3″)

Tania and Sarah-Jean, aren’t the Olsen twins pretty short? Unfortunetly I think this only works for slim people, but I don’t think height needs to be an issue. Allthough I’m tall and it makes me feel short. I guess it’s ok as long as one feels comfortable in it! :)

I absolutely adore baggy dresses (and scarily, I love the cream number the Olsen girl is wearing). I think the tailoring needs to be just right as it could make anyone look pregnant.
It’s a nice easy breasy summer look as well, with leather sandals and beaded jewelry.

No to the chole version.
Yes to the LA street version.
Yes to MK & Ashley’s.
I’ll have to look into that like now. Any accessories would work with this look. They seem to be so simple you could pile on. A bag, boots, necklaces, bangles, earrings, hats…

Julia, you’re right that the tayloring is important. I don’t thin it’ll work buying a large dress. Too bad cause now I have to wait for someone to make these.
Launa, piling on with accessories will probably work well with these. :) Maybe it’s even important for one to keep a sense of femininity since you want be able to flaunt any feminine shapes. I so wish I had one to test all of this out with!

Seems a little like things are changing; we’re seeing alot of baggy clothes on the runways, so it might just go your way. :)

The Chloe dress gives me hope; I think the nice fit in the shoulders is key for my shape. I couldn’t do the shapeless shoulders like the Olsen twins — I think you must be super-gamine to pull that off and not look like a lumpy potato!

I agree - it’s baggy in a whole different way and I think it could work. The problem is that it’s probably easier to find copies of the other dresses than that one…
