The Beginning
It all started several years ago when flipping through a fashion magazine. There they were, tan knee high boots with a round toe. It was love at first sight and I believe they were Marc Jacobs. As I couldn’t afford the originals I started searching for copies. At that time the pointy toe ruled the world and I quickly discovered that a round toed boot would be hard to get.
The End (I thought)
Two years ago the kind of shoe I had been searching for finally entered the stores of my price range. I bought the first pair I found. They were in fake leather and the heels were thin and wore down fast. They weren’t at all what I had fallen in love with, but the closest I could get. I settled with them and was pretty content. Something was missing though.
The Turning Point
A few years had gone by since my first sighting of the perfect shoes. They weren’t forgotten, but I had put them behind me. It had been a year since I settled with the cheap replacement. Then suddenly one day I saw them. These were from Vagabond. They had the perfect color, shape and quality. I fell in love all over again. For different reasons, one being that they were more than $200, I let them slip away. How my heart was aching! Even though it felt like the right thing to do at the time I couldn’t really settle with my decision.
The Happy Ending
Yesterday I went into a shoe store looking at the sale and there they were, 50% off. Only one pair left in my size and I had no money. The guy in the counter said they ordinarily didn’t hold off shoes on sale, but he was willing to do it anyway. I had 24 hours to come up with the money. This time I wouldn’t let them slip away. And I didn’t. I managed to get back the money I had paid for rent and this morning I went down to the store. I was really nervous, terrified that something would go wrong. Luckily, everything worked out and I got my beloved shoes. The shoes I had waited years to get my hands on. Now we will be together until the end of time.
