Outfit: Unpacking

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

jeans t-shirt threadless fashion outfit I’m off to help my mom unpack in her new house so there’s not room for much glam today - jeans and a tee will have to do. I’ll be back tomorrow!

I had to take the picture myself today so I didn’t have an extra set of eyes or technical help. In the moment the picture is taking I’m trying to figure out what damn button I have to push on the remote control. (Good thing I don’t post my face.)

The Tiara

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Magazines

tiara fashion When I wrote about glamming up casual outfits the tiara came up and I actually have a strong relationship to it. 2-3 years ago I saw this picture in a magazine. I don’t even remember what magazine it was, but I cut out the picture and saved it. It was the first sign I got that it was possible to wear tiaras even for those of us that aren’t princesses. After that photo I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect tiara of my own. It took me some time but I found it.

Since then it has been lying on the bed stand. I admire it several times a week. I have yet only worn it once though, and as far as I can remember it wasn’t in public. I have a few other things like this that I love so deeply but don’t wear, like a net hat. Some boundaries are just more scary to cross than others…

White & Black

Filed in: Fashion, Links, Shopping

threadless One of the things I’ve realized lately that I need and don’t have is a white t-shirt with black print. They just seem to go with everything. In case you hadn’t noticed Fashionologie is now selling a great one that I blogged about at Teees. Those pictures demonstrate exactly what I mean when saying that they go with everything. Most of my t-shirts come from Threadless cause it’s so easy to stock up when there’s a sale, but the other day I thought about that I couldn’t remember to ever having seen a t-shirt like this there. Today it changed though as they got in a t-shirt that has the same childlike charm that Fashionologie’s t-shirt has. I don’t know which one to choose though. Maybe I’ll go for both.

outfit knitted dress knitted hat beanie Today I’m wearing a very Burberry Prorsum spring inspired look. That collection was probably more suited for fall anyway, at least concidering the incredible spring/summer we had in Oslo.

The picture of the hat is way off cause it’s actually very simular to the ones in the Burberry collection. (And don’t worry, I’ll take it off while eating.)

Outfit: Summer Is Officially Over

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

outfit I’m breaking a few rules today when I’m mixing two shades of brown with black. My new rule however is that everything is allowed.

Skirt:
H&M
Turtle neck: H&M (I got these in two colors yesterday. They are super cheap and the quality is much better than you’d think. I have a couple of these from last year and they still look fine.)

Glam It Up

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Jewelry, Links, Shopping

When fall and winter come I find it easier to fall back into a more laidback look. Jeans with a plain old sweater is so much easier to put on when it’s cold outside than worrying about skirts and stockings. Even though many of us probably end up being a little lazier when it comes to style - there is help.

Adding a little something glamorous is really all you need. We’ve already seen Mary-Kate giving us the perfect example - a huge rhinestone necklace with a t-shirt. When stopping by Accessorize the other day I came across many glamorous clutches that would do the same trick. It’s really all about adding something glamorous enough to weigh the whole outfit to the other side.

On eBay you’ll find a lot of cheap alternatives for the rhinestone jewelry. The seller Aumum has some of them. You can get a big rhinestone necklace with matching earrings for £8. If you find a vintage one it’s even better because the silver has a more authentic look.

The clutches I saw at Accessorize can be ordered online for around £30 (only in UK and Ireland though). I especially fell for the clutch pictured below - it has a sort of Hollywood glam to it.

Mixing The Forbidden

Filed in: Fashion

silver gold blue black When I was younger I often used to hear those rules about not wearing brown shoes with a black outfit, not mixing navy with black or silver jewelry with gold jewelry. Those rules have followed me until recently. But then I got sick of it. Today it doesn’t matter that much anymore. Face Hunter have caught people mixing navy an black successfully, silver and gold is being mixed on the red carpet and brown and black actually look great together. It has taken me some years, but I’m finally breaking free of those silly old rules and getting dressed is starting to get a little bit easier.

Trends & Personal Style

Filed in: Fashion

Even though I focus a lot on trends in this blog I feel that people’s personal style is much more important. I came to think about this yesterday when I saw a type of “hot or not” list somewhere. Those kinds of lists drive me crazy. I usually end up finding stuff I love on the not list and I don’t know what it’s supposed to make me feel… Like I’m not trendy enough? Is it that important to be trendy at all times?

Trends are to me guidelines. They give me inspiration for my own personal style. But even though I’m trend conscious I don’t want to be bound up to any rules. It’s hard not to be affected by overall trends just because you see them everywhere and get used to them, not to mention it’s hard to find anything else in stores. Still, I want the pleasure of playing with different styles even though they may not be what’s right at the moment. I may focus a lot on trends but I try to avoid saying much about what’s not trendy. That a certain style isn’t trendy shouldn’t mean that it’s wrong, but should be left for each person to decide for themselves.

I love observing people that live outside the trends, or that uses trends in new ways. That’s for me the true inspiration. Where else would trends come from? These not so trendy people are important and I think we all should embrace those parts of ourselves because they’re probably more true to who we are. I’m not saying that I think it’s wrong to be trendy, I’m just saying that I don’t think it’s wrong not to be.

Does this make sense to you at all? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

outfit turtle neck boots I get cold so easily. Today it’s clouded so I chose a turtle neck under the dress. Other people are wearing t-shirts. I’d rather be warm and comfy.

The white floral pattern kind disappears in such a small photo. In real life it’s much clearer and gives more sense to the white sweater.

Wide Pants

Filed in: Designers, Fashion, Trend Alerts

Even though I still love the skinny pants with all of my heart, there’s a new shape on it’s way, the wide trousers. These often have the look of something you would expect your grandfather to wear - gray, a little masculine and kind of shapeless. There are also a lot of those pants that are a little wide around the upper half and then narrows around your calf.

Outfit: Sushi & Cava

outfit cheap monday jeans shirt No week without home made sushi and no weekend without Cava. Today we’re having both (but not together).

I’m mixing the shirt a little differently today than the last time I wore it. In stead of playing on the school boy look I’ve gone for more contrasts.

Outfit: All 70’s

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

golden knitted dress cognac boots 70s fashion Today I’m going all 70’s for beer and home made pizza this evening.

In lack of a better photo I’m using the one I took when I bought the dress and just add what’s missing on the side. (Now you see what difference lighting does to the dress.) I’m a little whimsical today; I think I had too much coffee.

Zara

Filed in: Designers, Fashion, Shopping

chloe shoes As I’ve mentioned before the first Zara store opened in Oslo yesterday. I was there but the chaos was too much for me to handle and I was in a hurry anyway. I went back today determined to buy a pair of shoes that are almost identical to the ones from Chloe. They had my size but unfortunately they were way too small and they had no bigger sizes. I was also planning on getting some long leather gloves in black. They had them in brown and creme yesterday but now these were gone as well and no black ones had appeared. It didn’t help that I had to handle a huge amount of people along with a very cranky boyfriend. Those kind of situations can really wear you out! Once again I left empty handed and I guess I will have to wait until everything settles down a little until I make another attempt. It’s just so annoying to miss out on something that I was so determined to get.
