The Tiara
Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Magazines
When I wrote about glamming up casual outfits the tiara came up and I actually have a strong relationship to it. 2-3 years ago I saw this picture in a magazine. I don’t even remember what magazine it was, but I cut out the picture and saved it. It was the first sign I got that it was possible to wear tiaras even for those of us that aren’t princesses. After that photo I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect tiara of my own. It took me some time but I found it.
Since then it has been lying on the bed stand. I admire it several times a week. I have yet only worn it once though, and as far as I can remember it wasn’t in public. I have a few other things like this that I love so deeply but don’t wear, like a net hat. Some boundaries are just more scary to cross than others…

Hahaha! You should tell that to me and my friend Jo. We were having a little bit of a crazy day, so she went out and bought a tiara and I went out and bought a dummy. We never took them off once on our four-hour shopping trip! We got a couple of looks, but mostly people were laughing with us, not at us, and we got some really nice comments on them. It’s better if you go mad with a friend than on your own, it’s easier to laugh at yourself and have fun with it!

:)
Wearing a tiara or a hat in public takes some courage, I think. I often put one on, make an outfit around it, and then chicken out of wearing the hat / tiara at the last minute.
That said, I’m going to make an effort with hats this autumn/winter, before I head home from Scotland to Australia in January (when it’ll be hothothot weather) - and I’m hoping that a few months of wearing hats will get me used to them enough to continue wearing them back home.
As for tiaras - Perhaps wear yours around the house? When I’m feeling blue, I like to put on a pair of ridiculously beautiful heels with my pajamas and just grin at them. I suspect a tiara would have a similar effect :)
