Excercising
Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Movies, Shopping

After a lot of consideration and years of experience I have come to the conclusion that the only way I can really go through with exercising is to have fun with it. For that purpose I have gathered information from movies like Flashdance and The Royal Tenenbaums as well as Jane Fonda´s videos from the 80´s. All of these looks are quite over the top, but at the same time, the only way I can imagine jogging down the street is by wearing a cute outfit. Or a fun outfit. With some good music on the iPod you might even feel like you´re actually in the movie. Retro looks are always fun. American Apparel have, as I´ve mention before, a whole lot of the perfect garments, from the completely spaced out ones to the completely plain ones. This includes tiny running shorts, oversized tees and one-pieces. At Sock Dreams you find a great selection of leg warmers. These are crucial if you´re doing yoga or dancing cause then the Flashdance look is important. A set of nice sweatbands can also be a good investment and at 3rd Power Outlet you can choose from a lot of different ones for $1.99 each. Now only one question remains: Will I, when it comes down to it, actually dare show myself in public in this? It´s one thing that you know yourself that you´re being ironic, but will other people get it?

i have to say, quite grudgingly, that it really doesn’t matter how cute you feel or look when exercising, it’s still awful. (i say this still panting, as i just came back from the gym…)

If you don’t enjoy it… then don’t do it… thats what I am keeping telling myself.

I think you will have a lot of fun exercising if you do play with your outfits. I’m naturally a homebody, but one of the only things that gets my butt out on the town on a regular basis is the fact that I perceive every outing as an opportunity to “costume” myself. I think the same thing applies for working out, as well. You’ll enjoy it and I think people will get the irony, that you’re going for!

Retro-looken funker utmerket! Synes klær skal være moro også, så det må være lov å leke litt. Vi ser jo forsåvidt en hel del av dette i motebildet sånn ellers også, så jeg sier kjøpr på!

I think it’s great to do whatever you can to enjoy exercising, but I wouldn’t set your expectations too high. Exercise is something that mostly feels good when you stop.
If you want it to work, my advice is to tell yourself you’ll do it even when you’re not enjoying it.
What is important is always to have the right outfit for whatever you’re doing, even at home with the curtains pulled. It sounds silly, but actually it’s a way of saying “I’m going to do *this* now instead of something else.”

I loovee 80s inspired dance wear, even when I’m not working out. I always cut off the necks of my larger tshirts, it’s so much more comfortable. And i think leggings/ tights/ leg warmers are adorable, if you know how to wear them. I was so excited to read this blog because these clothes can look really cute. You just have to pull it off right.

Yeah, go for it! I love the retro-gym look. The Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favorite movies and I’ve wanted an Adidas track-suit ever since my first viewing of the movie. However, they’re pretty pricey so I never bought one, which I personally think is the main reason I have never been successful in running for excercise. I like going to dance class instead where leg warmers are always in style ;)

Jeg trener i superbaggy 80-tallsklær:) Kom på krønsj, der kan du trene i hva som helst uten at noen bryr seg en døyt og høre bra musikk i tillegg. Kom kom kom! (må reklamere litt vett)

Thanks for the inspiration Agathe. I’m going to check out some ‘dance stores’ to see what I can find.

I am the same way, I need to have fun while I exercise, which is why I love dancing so much. Nice post.
