Sequins
Filed in: Designers, Fashion, Shopping

I got inspired by the sequins on the runway and then especially the DKNY show, so I decided to go on a hunt for my own sequin dress. It turned out to be a lot harder than I thought, even though I turned to eBay, the safest bet of all. I quickly found out that the only shop with a decent selection of sequin dresses was a drag queen shop. It made me have to try something new; dresses made for men. I sent them my measurements to make sure it would fit and I got a lot of help and guidance. One advice was not to stuff my bra too much. At $15 I had to give it a shot. Today it arrived and it was a success. The dress fits and it has a nice, feminine shape. I can´t wait to pair it with rougher fabrics like leather and wool.

Ah yes, sequins. They are great. I almost bought a pair of thigh high goold sequin boots from Victoria’s Secret. They were very Balenciaga meets Vegas showgirl. But where would you wear them? Also, I find charity shops to have lots of sequins. Then again, I live in San Francsico, and we definately don’t have a shortage of Drag Queens. : )

I believe in dressing the sequins down, like with a t-shirt at DKNY. I guess thigh high boots are more difficult cause a short skirt or dress will almost always look dressed up… I wish we had more drag queens in Oslo. :)

It’s funny because when I dont want the sequin stuff, I find tons of it. But once I start specifically looking for it, its everything I would never want to wear. I got this really cool sequined black pencil skirt though. The only problem is that when I want to wear it out, I get nervous about sitting in the car and having the beads fall off! So I’ve yet to wear it more than once.

Hye park lover, I´ll check it up and get back to you!
Eli, I know how it is with things you´re afraid of ruining. Especially when alcohol is involved there´s a lot of clothes I don´t dare to wear. In the end it´s better to wear it once and ruin it than to never wear it…

I belong to a local jazz society that holds monthly afternoon swing dances at an old hotel. The first few times we went, I was shocked by the sequins. These women really love the look. I\’ve since discovered it\’s BIG in the swing community here. The average age of the members is 60s - 70s and they love to dance. We find it to be quite fun to go and take part and I even have a few things with sequin trim now.
