Back in the City

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

We came home really late last night and I was so tired that I slept until noon this morning. I woke up to clouds and rain, but it didn´t stop me from going on my Saturday shopping. Right now I´m looking at all my new things and trying out outfits for tonight.

The Goods

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Jewelry, Secondhand, Shoes, Shopping

One of the things I´ve missed while I´ve been gone is our dress-up parties. After going shopping, mostly at markets and thrift stores, we crack open a bottle of wine and try out the new stuff. This is just some of the stuff I got from my stepmother or bought at the market today. What´s not pictured is mostly cause they´re hard to photograph this way, among them are a yellow/black mohair Sonia Rykiel dress, a long black evening gown with gold threads, a pair of lace-up boots, a black silk dress with beaded decoration that my grandmother made for herself and a bunch of other things.

The white dress was my stepmom´s. It needs to be ironed but it´s really cute. I got the acid wash dress today at a thrift store for about $10. Another girl found it and I stalked her for a while until she finally left it behind. It looks best with a belt and with it´s sleeves rolled up.

I ended up with 9 pairs of shoes in a week. I got the first pair at a market today for $3. It is in black patent leather with suede details and it has never been worn. I got the blue patent leather heels on sale in Bodø for about $20. The patent leather buckle shoes were my stepmom´s. The pink heels were another pair I got on sale in Bodø. The last pair is also in black patent leather, with a really cute bow, and were my stepmom´s.

red velvet bow belt

A bunch of accessoires, some from my stepmom and some that I got at a thrift store today. The metal studs are going to help me finally complete my studded scarf project inspried by Luella.

A few more things from my stepmom and a pink scarf I got at a thrift store today. The purple scarf is exactly like my favorite scarf, only in different colors, so now I have two favorite scarves.

Thrift Shopping in Oslo

Filed in: Fashion, Secondhand, Shopping

Some of you have asked me about the best thrift shops in Oslo, and since I guess a few of you from other places in Norway also are coming here, I´m making a post out of it.

Den Røde Tråd

A kind of crappy shop in Møllergata by the tunnel. Even though they have a lot of things I would never buy, the prices are good, there are few customers which makes it easier to snatch the best of it, and it was where I found my Chanel bag for $7!

Vestkanttorvet

A market in Frogner that is open every Saturday. Most of the shoppers here are looking for antiques so clothes and accessories are often left behind. Some of it´s pricey, but I´ve got some dirt cheap items there, and even stuff for free.

Fretex in Markveien

This is the fancy Fretex (equal to the Salvation Army). It´s not my favorite cause the prices often don´t match what you find. But there are more good shops in this street and it´s nice to look at. Once in a while I find something really grat.

Robot

A great little shop in Markveien with secondhand, new and redesigned stuff. Not the cheapest shop, but they often have great things.

Trabant

It has the same owner as Robot and it has about the same selection, but since it is almost across the street from Robot, it´s worth paying a visit.

The marked at Birkelunden

This market is open every Sunday and is quite big when the weather is nice. I´ve found some of my best things there and I stop by it every chance I have.

The marked at Blå

The marked is open every Sunday, like at Birkelunden, and is only about a 10 minutes walk away. It´s more expensive than some of the other markets and much smaller, but the area is really cool and the sellers often have great stuff.

Fretex at St. Hanshaugen

This is my favorite out of the Fretex shops and is in Ullevålsveien. The prices are good and even though there is a lot of crap there, I usually find something. I often haggle at the prices here because they usually take it very nicely.

Fretex in Majorstuen

This Fretex is in Kirkeveien and it´s not as good as the one on St.Hanshaugen, but since it is about a 10 minutes walk away from Vestkanttorvet, I often stop by there when I have the chance.

Tonica Vintage

I have only been there once cause it´s too far away from where I live, but you´ll find it in Schønings gate. The shop is beautiful and have an amazing selection, but is quite pricey.

The marked in Grønland

This marked is placed under the Vaterland bridge and is open every Saturday. It´s not what it used to be though and I rarely come here anymore, but I sometimes find things there, and it´s a good chance to stop by

Fretex in Grønland

which isn´t nearly as good as the others, but worth a visit.

And that´s about what I can think of at the moment. Those of you who know Oslo, let me know if I have forgotten something important. And the rest of you, let me know if you need directions. Maybe I´ll see you around here during the summer? Next weekend I´m going to Bergen and I´d love to know about some secret shops there!

On My Way Home

Filed in: Fashion

The day started at 8:00 am with a four hour boat trip, and now I am in a small city called Bodø waiting for my plain that doesn´t leave until late this evening. I went on this vacation to see family, relax and to see some of the nature around here. Since I was going to spend most of the time on an island with only one shop, which is a grocery store, I didn´t expect to come home with any new clothes or anything like that. Still I ended up with 7 new pairs of shoes, 3 tank tops, 4 dresses, a skirt, a bunch of belts and scarves and who knows what else. Most of them was given to me by my adorable stepmom and were stuff she got when she was younger but doesn´t wear anymore. It´s all packed in suitcases at the moment, so photos will come once I get home. And who knows, I am spending a lot more hours in this city, I might end up with more just out of boredom. See you soon!

Hiking

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

To go hiking in a dress is a good idea while you keep moving, but once you get up in the heights where it´s windy and chilly and are about to pose for pictures more clothes are soon needed. Sadly we didn´t get all the way to the top of the mountain because there was too much fog, but we had a great hike as far as we got. This is my last day up here. Tomorrow it´s back home to the city.

Fishing

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

I went to see two of my sisters today, so I put on a dress and heels. On our way home we came across a school of fish, and even though I had brought extra clothes in case that would happen, I had no time to change. This dress has been through a few adventures since I got it!

My New Best Friend

Helena Rubinstein Nudit SPA Roll on Deodorant

I got a new deodorant a few weeks ago, and even though it seemed great to begin with, it´s only now I´ve really put it through the test. After two days in the wildlife with loads of physical activity, hot sun and no access to a shower, I know that Helena Rubinstein Nudit Deodorant is a product I can rely on. I bet I even smelled like flowers when I got back home. I´ve used cheaper brands before that I have been content with, but they always seem to fail you once in a while. This has so far not failed me once.

Boat Trip

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

It´s not all glamour, cocktails and stilettos. I´ve spent the last two days on a boat trip along the coast of Helgeland. I´ve had to catch my own food and keep warm by the fire. It feels great to get close to nature like this once in a while.

Sunset

Another solution to the shoe problem is to wear none at all, and that´s what I did when watching the sunset this evening.

Outfit x 2

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

I brought several heels with me for this vacation, but I soon learned that most of the time alternative footwear is necessary. So far today I´ve ended up wearing the same dress in two different ways for practical reasons. First with wellies when I was by the water.

The Wedding Invitation

Filed in: Fashion, Wedding

Yesterday the wedding invitations were sent. (A little late, I know…) My husband to be drew the picture of us as an old couple, and those of you that have read our blogs for a while will probably recognize a few details when it comes to clothing.

I´m going to see my girlfriend Ida Maria play tonight. I always try to see her when she plays in Oslo as she lives in Stockholm at the moment. I´m wearing the same dress I´ve worn a few times lately. It´s strange, cause it was left unworn for years as I didn´t like the fit. Now it´s become one of my favorites.
