Shirt

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

I wish this shirt was a dress, or perhaps it is a dress only for shorter people. It just about covers the bare essentials when standing up, but that does also leave me looking very stiff. At least I can wear it for more casual occasions the way it is.

Wear What You Want

Filed in: Misc

If there´s ever been one hidden agenda behind writing this blog it´s been to wear what you want, therefore I´ve been careful about writing about what I like and not the other way around. The same philosophy can be translated when it comes to blogging, write about what you want to write about, anything else would be pointless. This blog is a hobby, not a job. If delivering what for some reason is expected of me becomes the focal point, it does start to remind me more of working, something I am not prepared for. Let this just be a note as I want this blog to be a fun place to be, both for me and for all of you. With the number of readers this blog has grown to have, and the press along with it, expectations are starting to develop, when really this is just a diversion from the rest of my life.

Wide Brimmed Hats

Filed in: Accessories, Designers, Fashion, Trend Alerts

Wide brimmed hat is such a classy summer accessory. I put great use into my black H&M hat of last year, but black often feels a little dark for summer, and I wouldn´t mind a different one…

Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism

Filed in: Fashion, Misc

I have never had a proper mobile phone. I was the last one in my class to get one and it was an old hand me down phone that wasn’t even registered in my own name. Whenever one of my mobiles broke down, like getting smashed during a rock concert, I’ve always gotten new crappy hand me down phones from friends and family. Lately, with the new apartment, new camera, new everything, I have felt as if I should match this up with a nice phone as well. The one I have now is about 6 years old, doesn’t have a camera, no color display, but has always been faithful. I get kind of attached to my phones that way, and I haven´t found a good enough reason to part with it, until now…

With the new Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism I can get a phone that combines functionality and looks in one. This time Nokia has collaborated with the talented graphic and fashion designer Frédérique Daubal. Daubal has previously done work for Paul Smith, among many others, whom he designed textiles for.

The result is a mobile quite out of the ordinary, just the kind of extraordinary that would actually make take the steps towards getting a proper phone. The inspiration for the new Nokia is taken from the way in which crystals are formed in precious stones and minerals, and they have succeeded very well. I love the colors, the shape of the buttons as well as the phone itself, everything has turned out very well. Not only that, it has a 1 GB built in memory space. Now I must admit that I am no expert on mobiles, but it sounds pretty sweet. I hate slow phones, and this space should assure that it works fast. The 2 megapixel camera will also come in handy when I don’t bother to bring along my huge Nikon camera.

My friends and family have been quite annoyed with me for a while because of my phone. I either don’t have any money on it, or I forget to bring it with me. The new Nokia 7900 is a phone that always would be there along my side, and I can’t wait until I receive mine!

The Mess

Filed in: Fashion

Since we´re redecorating the bedroom and have moved into the livingroom, we´re surrounded by shoes, clothes and accessories. I have spent the weekend trying to organize things to make this situation bearable. We´re sleeping in the dining room and the dining table has been turned into a space to keep my jewelry. I am still not sure how I´m going organize all of this later on. This table seats 6 people, I can´t use that much space in our bedroom just for jewelry. I spent hours yesterday and today tangling everything apart from eachother.

Next to our bed is the bar cabinet which now houses shoes and feather boas next to my liquor bottles.

Two of the windows are filled with bags. I didn´t know I had this many.

The least attractive thing is the rows of clothes next to the sofa.

And the shoes, they´re a little all over the place…

The dresses are next to our bed and wherever there´s room.

It will be much more fun to show you how I end up organizing all of this cause this situation is unbearable at the moment.

Fringe T-shirt

Filed in: DIY, Fashion, Links

I fell in love with this fringe t-shirt the moment I saw it at Minimarket, but at 750 SEK it was just a little too expensive. At least for a white tee as you know you´ll either get yellow pit stains or spill tomato juice on it.

minimarket t-shirt fringes

Instead of saving up for that one, I went and bought two men´s t-shirts at H&M. One of which I cut fringes of, the other one which I took apart only to sew it back together with the fringes in place. My fringes are a bit more dramatic than the ones on the Minimarket t-shirt, but I guess you can buy more delicate fringes at fabric shops.

Now that I know it works, I will probably work on different solutions, possibly a dress. And since the H&M t-shirts aren´t top notch to begin with, I might try with a nicer t-shirt. Possibly different colors on the fringes. A lot of ideas are going through my mind right now…

Beaded Earrings

Filed in: Jewelry, Shopping

There’s a whole world out there with stuff I either didn’t know about or didn´t considered as an option. Usually I find these things at flea markets and thrift shops, but during winter the selection is much poorer and the Internet becomes the source of all things new. Beaded earrings is an American thing, maybe Native American, and I haven’t seen them over here as far as I can remember. It all started over at Bona Drag where they have this amazing pair.

They were souring in the back of my mind until a wolf pair popped up while browsing through eBay. Suddenly I discovered that people actually make a living out of making these things. And so my hunt began. They would have to be big and a little trashy looking and I’ve fallen in love with the animals in the form of wolfs and eagles, the more ethnic inspired and the colorful and fun parrot earrings. I came across this shop on eBay where you can have them especially altered for your need. I think I am going for both the Bona Drag pair and the wolves.

Redecorating

Filed in: Fashion, Outfits

We´re redecorating the bedroom this week and all our clothes and accessories have been moved into the livingroom. After spending hours painting the walls I´m super tired so all you´re going to get is this photoshopped shot, the rest was crap and I am not intending to do new ones. After painting were going to build a new storage system which will make it so much easier to keep track of all my stuff, not to mention get dressed in the morning.

Book Review: Wife Dressing

Filed in: Books, Fashion

wife dressing book ann fogerty fashion

In 1959, Ann Fogarty’s book “Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife”, was released for the first time in New York. Now, nearly 50 years later, it has been re-released the use and entertainment of us younger wives. The age of this book becomes extra clear with the “provocative notes for the patient husband who pays the bills“.

Since I got married this summer, I have sometimes found it amusing to play my role to the full. Get dressed up in some 50’s housewife dress and apron and bake cookies for our guests. In this case the book is an excellent source for how to stay stylish and fashion conscious in a 50’s kind of way. But it is also so much more than that…

Even though the initial release of this book was so long ago, much of it’s content is just as useful today. Like the chapter on how to care for your wardrobe. “Uniformity of hangers gives your wardrobe cohesion. It’s good for your morale to open your closet door and see everything looking nice.” It couldn’t be more true.

Or the chapter on taste and money. “A clothes budget is like Einstein’s theory. It’s based on relativity. The relative value of perhaps one very expensive coat against two less costly; of one good fur against a couple of fake furs; of an extreme high-fashion item against a classic.” And she also brings to the attention how good taste and money don’t necessarily depend on each other. A good starting point on the subject.

And lets not forget about the husband in all of this, after all he pays the bills. He’s for example mentioned when it comes to personal grooming: “When your husband’s eyes light up as he comes at in at night, you’re in sad shape if it’s only because he smells dinner cooking.”

The fun thing is that when you expect the book to be all about silly fashion rules or just to be very conservative in general, it’s actually quite open to experimenting with clothes (although within certain limits) and quite funny, something that becomes clear on the chapter on breaking the rules as well as the fashion IQ test at the end of the book. And I guess that these days, with all kinds of synthetic materials and bad tailoring, that it is a useful source for how to care for (and wear) tweeds and furs like they used in the old days. But while it does contain useful advice and helpful ideas, I would rather recommend it as a sweet gift to a newly married (or engaged) girlfriend, or perhaps just a little something to amuse yourself with. You can find it at Amazon.
