Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism

Filed in: Fashion, Misc

I have never had a proper mobile phone. I was the last one in my class to get one and it was an old hand me down phone that wasn’t even registered in my own name. Whenever one of my mobiles broke down, like getting smashed during a rock concert, I’ve always gotten new crappy hand me down phones from friends and family. Lately, with the new apartment, new camera, new everything, I have felt as if I should match this up with a nice phone as well. The one I have now is about 6 years old, doesn’t have a camera, no color display, but has always been faithful. I get kind of attached to my phones that way, and I haven´t found a good enough reason to part with it, until now…

With the new Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism I can get a phone that combines functionality and looks in one. This time Nokia has collaborated with the talented graphic and fashion designer Frédérique Daubal. Daubal has previously done work for Paul Smith, among many others, whom he designed textiles for.

The result is a mobile quite out of the ordinary, just the kind of extraordinary that would actually make take the steps towards getting a proper phone. The inspiration for the new Nokia is taken from the way in which crystals are formed in precious stones and minerals, and they have succeeded very well. I love the colors, the shape of the buttons as well as the phone itself, everything has turned out very well. Not only that, it has a 1 GB built in memory space. Now I must admit that I am no expert on mobiles, but it sounds pretty sweet. I hate slow phones, and this space should assure that it works fast. The 2 megapixel camera will also come in handy when I don’t bother to bring along my huge Nikon camera.

My friends and family have been quite annoyed with me for a while because of my phone. I either don’t have any money on it, or I forget to bring it with me. The new Nokia 7900 is a phone that always would be there along my side, and I can’t wait until I receive mine!

When I had to buy a new mobile phone because my old one decided not ring anymore when I received calls, I took a look at the Nokia 7900 as well.

But I can’t justify 330 euros for mobile phone. Sure it’s all pretty and has nice functions, but everyone knows you hardly use the extra functions after a few weeks anymore.

I wouldn’t pay 330 euros for a phone that will probably last no longer than 3 years (life span of new mobine phones is crap), but everyone decides for themself if they want to buy an expensive phone or not.

  2. Amber Says:

oh man, how much did nokia give you to write that? it was so informative.

  3. Agathe Says:

As I´ve said, I haven´t bought a phone myself before, but I thought all new phones cost about that?

  4. faithsalutes Says:

I have the same issue. I think you have just motivated me to purchase a new one, I wonder if I can get that phone in the states…mine now takes 45 seconds just to “end” or look up a name in the phonebook. Its a hand me down.

    Lame. very Lame.

Wait, 330 euros…no way. I guess the comment above just talked me back out of it.

  5. henrike Says:

wow, you must be a real “big income earner” ;) i’m almost envious … but at last its only mobile phone … a good looking one, but its only a mobile …

double-wow, how many pairs of shoes could that mean ;)

  6. Imelda Says:

There are very cheap phones aswell, but I paid mine 200 euros. And yeah, it’s a lot of money, but I just love the design.
so if it makes you happy, than why not buy it!!!

And I had the same problem, I never had my phone with my. Now with the new pretty one, it different, I have it with me all the time!

I really like this design aswell!! To bad I just bought mine ;)

  7. Agathe Says:

Faithsalutes, haha, I guess we can be lame both of us for a little longer. Apparantly, mine is not coming until February.

Henrike, I did just get a raise! But no, I have a farly low income… ;)

    Imelda, couldn´t agree more!

  8. Orsi Says:

It’s the same with me, I get so attached to gadgets, I can’t leave them behind until I find something perfect enough to make me do so. Now that I have my LG White Chocolate, I don’t feel like changing it… at all!
But what to do with my dear old iPod mini…? :)

  9. Agathe Says:

Haha, I had the iPod shuffle (!) until I got a new iPod for free when buying my Mac! I am hopeless at gadges!

  10. Agathe Says:

BTW, for those of you critical of me writing about these kinds of products, I would never ever write about something I don´t like! I get tons of mails of people wanting me to cover their stuff, and some have some sneaky ways of trying to get a story, after all it is a dirty business. But this is my blog where I write about what I like.

  11. Karolina Says:

I adore your blog, your style as well as your pig :) And I strongly agree that you have right to write on your own blog whatever you like! That is why we all read you, we like what you like :)!

  12. CG Says:

Was this a paid recommendation?? You definitely have the right to post about whatever you like, but if you’re being paid to say it, it’s general blog courtesy to mention it, just to inform your readers that you are being paid by the company. love your blog by the way!

  13. Agathe Says:

    Karolina, thanks for the support!

CG, nope, I haven´t gotten paid for it, that is what the “sponsored review” category is for, although it´s been ages since I did one of those. Doesn´t really pay well and most of the products are crap anyway. It was easier to fall for that when I was a student and always short on cash.

  14. ot Says:

i have to agree with CG and Amber. still like your blog A LOT. i’m addicted!

  15. Chang Says:

It’s a nice phone, but the price tag is a bit steep. But then most gadgets are expensive when they first come out, and gets cheaper and cheaper until someone make a better thing then it will be handed out for free.

I remember my parents said they actually saved money to buy a walkman.

  16. brini Says:

I thougth about buying that mobile as well, but I opted for the Sony Ericsson T650i instead. It costed around 180€ with a contract and around 500€ without. As I wanted to renew mine, it was ok.

  17. Agathe Says:

OT, I do write about a lot of products on this blog, and I find it weird that once it costs more than a H&M skirt it´s a big deal. A couple of years ago I would never write about a phone like this cause I couldn´t afford it, this blog has always been very personal that way, but now I have a job and things have changed… I would never buy $500 shoes before either, but now I do. I am pretty sure all of you think for yourselves though. :)

Chang, haha, yeah, I remember saving up for my first camera, and believe me, it was the cheapest camera on the market at that time.

Brini, I don´t have a contract as my number is registered in somebody elses name, never had that taken care of…

  18. Maz Says:

I just saw on pixmania that this phone (or one very similar) is €215.

Not sure if this is any use to you.

Anyway, don’t take any notice of people who come on here and question what you write here. You pay the hosting company and other costs, it’s your space you can write whatever you want!!

Love the blog by the way, I’m loving the posts on your apartment at the moment!!

    keep up the good work.

  19. CG Says:

aha! thanks for the clarification. I think the problem is, you write so well it sounds almost professional :) i love your style and value your opinion, so I just wanted to check. i’m glad you’re posting so much lately!

  20. ROSIE Says:

    i have this phone
    and its a gudden!

  21. Margarita Says:

    That is one sexy phone.

  22. Kristel Says:

I think there’s nothing wrong with paying a bit more for a good thing tha you actually need and use. I payed 400 euros for my phone and it was worth it because I use it and all of it’s extra gadgets every day. On the other hand I STILL have my iPod Shuffle and I’m quite happy with it because I don’t need the newer iPods and I wouldn’t have any use for it.
