Wear What You Want

Filed in: Misc

If there´s ever been one hidden agenda behind writing this blog it´s been to wear what you want, therefore I´ve been careful about writing about what I like and not the other way around. The same philosophy can be translated when it comes to blogging, write about what you want to write about, anything else would be pointless. This blog is a hobby, not a job. If delivering what for some reason is expected of me becomes the focal point, it does start to remind me more of working, something I am not prepared for. Let this just be a note as I want this blog to be a fun place to be, both for me and for all of you. With the number of readers this blog has grown to have, and the press along with it, expectations are starting to develop, when really this is just a diversion from the rest of my life.

  1. p Says:

    Hello there Agathe

I’ve been visiting this site for some time, and I love it to bits, tears and to death.

I do get what you mean when I sense some frustration over the comments of some readers, expecting one to deliver, and who suddenly become conspiracy theorists trying to suss out what never existed.

I have problems with my own blog with burgeoning readership, I thought it terrible and immensely frustrating just having to write disclaimers.

In the end, I thought, sod it. I’m not born to please all.

So, keep up with what you do. Keep going on with your Wear What You Want spirit! I love it immensely!

    P

  2. Kristel Says:

And that´s exactly the way we like you and your blog! You see… it´s also a diversion from my everyday life. :)

  3. Caro Says:

Your blog has somehow become a everyday thing for me. You do a good job. You inspire me and you are not quite a role model - because I don’t know you that well :) - but you guide me, and actually I’ll try to make a fringe tee. It’s different and casual.

Maybe you could link me in?

    xoxo

  4. faithsalutes Says:

It should be fun, only. If its not…walk away.
    Bravo.

  5. Julie Says:

Just wanted to bellow in and say that I too have been reading your blog for a while and have noticed the changes that you’ve gone through since I’ve been reading - especially the change in your style photographs (remember when it was just a body and no head?!) And that’s the awesome thing about it! You’re quite the original gal and I enjoy watching your style *and life-style* change. It’s the nature of things!
Plus, I’ve been loving the new fashion-esque photos.

  6. nina Says:

I have found your blog by chance months ago and since that day I’ve checked it every single day, but that’s completely my choice , which means that I’ve never thought you are there to please me and that it’s your duty to keep me interested in your blog and in the latest trends and this kind of stuff. So in my opinion, you don’t have to feel at all obliged to any one who reads your blog because anyone who stops here does it for her/his own pleasure, not for you (i don’t know if I’m making my point right:). I also want to say to you that while I don’t have the nerve to read everyday and all the time those fashion magazines I find your blog interesting because it’s got a very personal touch and makes someone feel involved in a kind of way. This is why this blog has got this amount of attention, i guess, because it’s earthy, it inspires normal people with normal budget, it makes them believe that fashion it’s personal and needs fantasy and experimentation. It’s not all about expensive stuff. Keep up the good style you’ve got and never care for things you shouldn’t. :)

  7. Lanii Says:

Well, I’ve only just started reading your blog - it was a suggestion on my Google Reader - and I love it. We don’t have super-similar styles, I’m an American living in Canada, and the differences abound. But for some reason I just enjoy your outfit posts, hearing how you’re setting up your house. I think it’s because I’m also Newly Married and a fairly broke fashion fiend so I feel some camaraderie there.
I understand your frustration but I think you can be true to yourself and your intents while embracing your popularity! And whoever doesn’t like it can go to someone else’s blog!
    God Speed!

  8. Hailey Says:

No pressure from me over here. ;-)
I am happy with whatever you want to post and if you decide not to even, I would understand that too. Only do it if you love it and only post what you love. It’s good advice for me too. If I haven’t told you yet, thanks for all the great posts over the past 2.5 years!!

  9. Suzanna Says:

    This is a provocative–and subtle–post.

You have no obligation to anyone, whether that be a reader or commercial interest. You only have an obligation to yourself. To thine own self, etc, etc.

However, it is interesting to see (not just here but everywhere), how readers develop a voice that demands to be heard. In that way a blog is functioning much like a magazine and the comments as letters to the editor.

It is not incumbent upon you to deliver material according to someone else’s agenda. As you so succinctly said, it is a blog, not a job. The perception of the readers is not the deciding factor; yours is.

  10. Ryfka Says:

  11. Renée S. / FashionFillers Says:

I only post about things that I love too, I won’t post about things that I don’t completely adore. Why should I? And of course readers are a big deal, but I’m also having this blog as my personal fashion diary you know. The fact that others come and enjoy your sense of style is just great!
And you, you get about 20 to 30 comments on EVERY post, that’s what every blogger dreams of. I know last week you had over 100 comments on one post, people just want to let you know they also like the things you like and appreciate the way you write.

  12. jennine Says:

what’s going on here? what prompted this post? i’ve been reading daily for a… the last year, year and a half, and i never thought of it as a shopping blog, or one with a hidden agenda… in fact, i’ve always thought your honesty has been the main reason why i feel so attached to it.

i myself, started my fashion journey one way… and as i spend more time contemplating it, my opinions change and my relationship with my wardrobe deepens… i don’t know why it’s that way, but it is. everyone’s different

  13. Winona Says:

    Amen Sister!

  14. punky Says:

I never really under stand why people can complain about stuff like this…If you dont want to read about the nokia phone, just stop reading. No one is twisting your arm to read the blog entry.

Blog about what ever you like hunny.

  15. Roslyn Says:

I LOVE your blog just the way it is. I am inspired by your style–even though I am a bit less inventive than you, the reason I love reading it is because you are different and you blog about what you like. You have a really distinctive flavour and I appreciate your viewpoints and style!

  16. sariti Says:

dear agathe, i’ve got just a little “hint”…don’t care about what they say… ;.) ..your blog is one of my favourite one..i like it so much because you put yourself in it…

  17. WendyB Says:

You know that no one agrees with “Wear What You Want” more than I do!!! It’s my whole raison d’etre. I also agree that this is your personal blog and that you should deal with it in a way that makes you happy. You don’t have to meet anyone’s expectations. Anyone who doesn’t like what you have to say has plenty of other choices.

  18. Brandie Says:

I say it’s your blog so you should be able to do as you please. I love how your style as evolved and I say you shouldn’t have to conform to any type of standards or expectations. That would defeat the purpose wouldn’t it?

  19. Guerreira Says:

Very rightly said! I love the blog and whoever doesn’t should be very welcome to read something else!

  20. Irene Says:

I really like your blog because what you wear is really affordable, but you wear it very well. I find it more inspiring to see people wear clothes in my price range in interesting ways rather than seeing designer stuff I can’t afford.
I also like to watch you experiment with different looks because it gives me ideas to experiment too.

  21. Ebba Says:

You have a superfun blog! Remember by far most of your readers love it :) Please don`t let silly complainers get to you! I will beat them with a stick.

  22. natty Says:

well said!! thats exactly what blogs should be!!

  23. della Says:

Hi, I don’t usually leave comments but wanted to say I love your blog and sense of style - esp things I wouldn’t have considered (such as the beaded wolf earrings). Dx

  24. rose Says:

See. I didn’t even know where this was coming from cause I skipped over your cell phone post. It wasn’t because I thought it was an advertisement I just didn’t care about it. That does not mean I don’t think you should have posted it. It’s your blog, if I don’t want to read about something I have the choice to skip that post. You do a fine job. Sometimes I wonder how you afford all your great stuff but I never ask. It’s not my business and it’s not why I read. I like the inspiration I get and the great ideas. By the way, I know you like DIY projects, check out fashionista.com. They have a cool tights one I think you would like. Thanks for your blog!

  25. Phoebe Says:

    Dear Agathe,
Just wanted to let you know that your blog is adored the world over- I live in Melbourne Australia and I and my friends read it daily without fail. You have no one to answer to but yourself, please keep up this marvellous diversion because we couldn’t do without it!

  26. lisel Says:

Yeah, thanks for your blog! I hate it that some silly people provides you such a negative feeling! It’s not either their business!

(Btw, If you have many of years had a sucky cell phone, you have the right to buy a great one! Think of people who buy every year an other one and !!)

    lovelovelove

  27. Cameron Says:

Don’t you worry about us! I, for one, am perfectly happy to read something that’s primarily for you. You don’t have to tailor your fashion or the way you write about it for us. In fact, I love the feeling of “spying” on your fantastic married life (and on Molvin, of course!).

  28. thealchemist Says:

agathe, i have been reading this blog since you were posting just shots of your outfit without your head. i love the evolution of your style and i have never felt that there is any hidden agenda. at the end of the day, this is your blog that you allow us access to and for that, thank you!!

  29. Maria Says:

People do come here to read your blog everyday and you do the extra-effort and put on new clothes and pose in front of the camera.Your blog is the best ( in my opinion); that doesn’t mean that other people should like it too.I do, though and I would like to thank you for everything.Keep it up!!!
And what’s wrong with the Nokia post anyway..it made me look at my phone .I also have an old one and I need to change it.Your post was more than welcomed.

  30. mirrabelle Says:

    Tell ‘em girl :)

I check your blog regularly as well and it always seems to me that you only write about what you love, so keep it up. You’ve inspired me to hit the second hand stores more often now. And H&M… let’s not forget about H&M.. hehe.

  31. Jenny Says:

    You go Agathe!

  32. Asiancajuns Says:

Hear, hear! Give yourself a break every once in a while - blogging should only be a hobby.

  33. carla morris Says:

i greatly enjoy your blog, just the way it is! pls don’t change - approaching it just as you have, as something fun and not a job, is what has kept it charming. [i am envious too of your great figure, and how you choose your pieces. inspiring.]

  34. sarah Says:

I am a long, long time lurker of your blog. And I have to say - it and you could not be more fantastic. Nay-sayers be damned.

  35. PattiG Says:

Hi Agathe, this is my first comment and I just wanted to say that I love love loooove your blog, it’s so refreshing to read all your posts because you are always so optimistic and I imagine you have some bad days (as the rest of us), but you manage to make a great job and I really appreciate it.. keep on going!!! :)

  36. Renee Says:

I loooov your blog so much I check it daily to get my fashion fix and i respect that you blog about whatever you are loving that very moment! It’s the worst when something you love as a hobby becomes work but don’t let this be the case with this blog as soooo many people love what you are doing! Keep up the supa-dupa posts! xxxxxx

  37. Chang Says:

(read the comments above me, they siad everything I got to say.)

  38. Claire Amos Says:

A diversion for you and me also. Thanks for the blogging and here’s hoping the expectations don’t become a fun killer! I admire your ability to blog so regularly and consistently, you give me, a blog baby, something to aspire to!

  39. d Says:

din blogg er den beste motebloggen fordi den handler ikke om trender.

du kler deg som du vil, og du har ekte stil.

alle de andre blogger er bare skrevet av trendavhengige folk som bare vil se ut som mary kate olsen eller ashley.

    du er original!

keep up the work and stay true to yourself.

  40. Maj Says:

Hi Agathe, I just wanted to say that your blog is special for me because it’s so natural, you are so stylish person!!! :)) Don’t worry what other people thought - be real, that’s it. Big up!

  41. earthkitten Says:

Oh wow! That someone would try to give you negative energy for writing about what you truly love….sillyness! Please don’t take that stuff to heart, you have many admirers out here in the stratosphere. :)

I read your musings everyday, like many, to bring freshness to my fashion thoughts. For this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s definitely fun reading, and I hope…fun writing!

To anyone else out there who thinks things on this blog should be any different…

    EAT SH*T!

    (pardon my language..hehe..)

    With affection,
    Earthkitten

  42. Eyleen Says:
