Finally Done

Filed in: Fashion, Home Decor

We´ve been painting, cleaning and moving things around for three weeks and now we are finally pretty much done with the bedroom. Some minor details remain, but isn´t it always like that? What has taken so long is sanding down and painting each shelf of the storage system from Ikea. It took even longer than it should as we got the wrong color to begin with. It hasn´t been the best situation for a newlywed couple to put it mildly and a lot of fights have been thrown over this project.

What´s a little depressing now that we´re done is that I still don´t have enough room for all of my clothes. Especially dresses as we couldn´t spare anymore hanger space. I´m very pleased with the result though. It´s hard to capture everything as it´s pretty big, but I promised to you pictures so here we go.

We got a new chandelier as we didn´t even have a lamp in the bedroom before.

I decorated several boxes with nice paper to store all kinds of small things in.

The drawers are almost the best as I finally have somewhere to keep all my scarves, belts and panty hoses.

The next project will be finding a good way to store all of my jewelry which is still sitting on the dining table…

    god bless ikea

  2. Rebecca Says:

So pretty…how does your cute piggie like it? Molvin
Blah! I have to get to work on my blog. Yours inspires me.:-)

  3. Caro Says:

wow - wish my closet looked like that. It’s huge and lovely ! :)

    Good job !

  4. Nancy Says:

Wow. That looks pretty incredible. Now I feel like reorganizing my own closet. And I like the idea of using wrapping paper on boxes to create your own personalized storage boxes. I think I might have to do that myself. Good luck with the rest of your projects!

  5. Agathe Says:

Rebecca, I think she liked it better when all this stuff was on the floor. We have lost a handfull of buttons to the hungry pig while working on this.

I´m glad you guys like it! I wanted a more open solution rather than a closet as I love the sight of all my dresses. ;)

  6. Alyssa Says:

Love the boxes, I do decoupage quite often so I have a thing about nice paper :)

  7. AM Says:

So would you say you wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time.

looks like you need to do a wardrobe edit to me!

  8. jennine Says:

    it looks gorgeous…
i love the flower printed boxes…

  9. Agathe Says:

Alyssa, I bet you have a lot of pretty paper lying around then!

AM, I wear more than that! But you´re right. I got rid of a lot when I moved and a lot is sitting in the attic. I go through everything at least twice a year, but it´s soon time for another round. The biggest problem are the dresses though as I wear a lot of dresses and there are not many I don´t wear on a regular basis.

  10. cordelia Says:

i love how it looks, when i buy my own home, that is how i want my room to look like. need to be able to see my clothes!! :-) It must be nice to live in your house! xoxo

  11. Guerreira Says:

Looks great! But it is such pressure on a relationship, innit? Have you ever heard of thr Ikea-syndrome? Where most couples will have at least one fight while shopping there? Me and my man suffer from it, so now before we go we always keep repeating “We will not have a fight, we will not have a fight…”. It also helps to send him to have some meatballs when he starts to get tired!

  12. Agathe Says:

Guerreira, hahaha, I AM familiar with that syndrome! Meatballs always helps. Although my husband was kind enough to go alone all three trips it took to get this thing home!

  13. Eve Says:

    haha, sounds familiar:)
me and my boyfriend are currently redecorating our flat, and I am a nerve wreck - Agathe, you are lucky to have only IKEA-experience …my man likes to do ALL the things on his own, (shelves, wardrobe —even antresole!), which results in a constant mess
by the way, your new storage system looks great:)
I have also a question - where does your little piggie sleep? has she got a basket or sth like that?

  14. Agathe Says:

Eve, hehe, my husband isn´t really much of a handyman so he doesn´t do more than he has to. I guess that´s a good thing cause he can be rather clumsy. :P The piggy sleeps in the bathroom most of the time. She loves sleeping there as there heating in the floor so she can lie there underneath her blanket. Sometimes though she gets to sleep in our bed. :)

  15. Eve Says:

how sweet:)) it even makes me desire your piggie more :) (I’m just considering having one myself, that’s why I was asking) :)

  16. Claudia Says:

oh:) it’s great..i keep telling to my mom: “when i’ll be BIG i wanna have a home with my own bathroom and a great big dressing” :) it is my dream…till then i’m planning to renovate my room but…i don’t know when…i have not enough courage for this :) but well…i really like your room…looks personal and romantic :)
which is your’s husband part of that “closet”? those little drawers :D ?
p.s.: i like your butterflyes..i have also butterflyes on my mirror :) what great telepathy :D

  17. liselore Says:

    Hi Agathe,

I have a question too; How do you storage your shoes in your new wardrobe? And how many off these poles did you buy?

Thank you for the inspiration! (again)

  18. Agathe Says:

Eve, pigs are fun animals and they´re very social and are also able to manage more on their own than say a dog. They are however very nosey and like to taste everything which has us running after her a lot. She´s only a baby though so I hope she grows out of that sometime.

Claudia, hehe, he has two shelves… Two small shelves. But then again he tends to borrow a lot of my clothes. ;)

Liselore, We got three of the narrow ones and one of the wide ones. 7 shelves from top to bottom which adds up to 17 shelves, 3 thingies for hangers and two drawers. Some of the shoes are in the hallway where I have four shelves, some are in the bedroom (see the picture from the “new skirt” post and some are a little around the place.

  19. kajakowo Says:

Wow, I actually dream about something like that. Great storage system!

  20. thealchemist Says:

love, love, love. it looks incredible. redecorating is hard but the results are amazing. are you looking to do anything else or is this it for now?

  21. M Says:

i need some closet organization tips from you.

  22. Wee Lemonspank Says:

Love your blog. Love is the only word for it. Recently refurb’d my own jewellery collection using these ~

You may like the idea & they’re very easy to make on your own.

  23. laura Says:

A tool box! This is the one that I have for my jewelry. Looks nice, locks, easy to move, felt lined, lots of drawers, etc.

  24. TheClothesHorse Says:

The chandelier looks excellent, as do the boxes with the prints.

  25. T Says:

  26. earthkitten Says:

    …oh my….I am jealous! My closet’s a disaster-area right now..hehe…..

  27. Savannah Says:

    The closet is amazing!
I meant to send this last time you blogged about organizing your jewelry…It’s not the most glamorous display but it’s nice to have everything where you can see it (and untangled). It helps inspire outfits, and I tend to wear more.I hang the necklaces next to my closet for easy access/inspiration. You most definitely would need more than two boards ;)

If interested:It’s just cork bulletin boards with colorful tacks and material. You can’t tell from the photo but i also have a rolled up curtain (tied up when i’m exploring my options, and released to cover/protect the jewelry from dust etc.)

  28. Savannah Says:

    sorry i didn’t realize i couldn’t post html pics…I’ll try emailing them ;)

  29. carla Says:

must feel so good getting that done. i hate to sound like someone’s grandma, but have you ever organixed your closet by color? you know, all whites in a row, then cream, then blue, etc. i think, especially with something that is on view, there is such a soothing quality to having it harmonious, rather than chopped up by all the different patterns. just a suggestion, take it or leave it as you will! : )

  30. Ida Says:

You have a chandelier! I love them, especially in unconventional places, that is other places than in the living room. Like in the bed room og bath room. I want one too. :-)Where did you get yours?

  31. Agathe Says:

The Alchemist, there´s still the bathroom that has to be taken care of, but we need some more money first…

Wee L, ooh, those frames are fabulous! Very brilliant idea! Thank you for the link!

Laura, that´s the nicest toolbox I´ve ever seen! Thank you for the idea!

T, jeg har tenkt å kanskje kjøpe noen hattehyller, sånne fra 50-tallet, så lenge de har kroker. Får se litt rundt. :)

Savannah, I´ll reply you on your mail! Thanks! :)

Carla, hehe, it´s a great idea, but I know I will have a hard enough time keeping everything folded nicely. It would help making it look less messy though so I might just give it a shot someday!

Ida, I got mine at Jane Doe. They have one like mine left, only smaller. It´s just as nice though and this photo really doesn´t do justice to it at all. However - it wasn´t cheap. I never thought I´d spend this much on a lamp, but then it will last forever and I won´t have to settle for the second best which is always a bummer. I smile evertime I look at it! :)

  32. Renée S. / FashionFillers Says:

    Absolutely great job!

  33. candice Says:

A suggestion for your jewelry organization:

    http://www.amazon.com/Hanging-Jewelry-Organizer-Pocket-Whitney/dp/B00012FFGQ

It saves so much space and you can still see all your goodies!!!

  34. faithsalutes Says:

This makes me oh so jealous. I cleaned out my closet this weekend and it does not even compare. Bravo.

  35. GlamaRuth Says:

I have a huge jewlery collection as I have all of my grandmother’s costume jewelry amassed from the 20’s through the 80’s, as well as many pieces added by me, my mom, dad and husband. my mom found the best storage system at an antique market she worked at - flat rectangular boxes with velvet inserts of various configurations (many small squares for rings/earrings, long troughs for necklaces, etc.), with clear class lids so you can see your options without digging. I keep them stacked in an under-bed storage drawer. I will comment again with a web link once I get it from my mother.

  36. Mariann Says:

Ooh, I love the idea of putting nice paper on shoeboxes and etc. I’m gonna go and buy nice paper in Papirgalleriet this week. Thanks for the idea.

(+your bedroom and the whole closet looks great!)

  37. hannah Says:

your closet is beautiful. i love the fact that you put it on display by not adding doors. magnificent.

    peace

  38. Prêt-à-Porter Prostitute Says:

oh it looks all so pretty

  40. Kisse Says:

I love, love, love your clothes. Your “wardrobe” is just like Carrie’s from Sex and The City. :D There’s so much of everything…

  41. kathi Says:

i’ve really fallen in love with this organisation system.. so i was wondering which name does it have? i mean the ikea name..? because i need to use my boyfriend’s staff discount before we move abroad as long as i can.. :)

  42. Agathe Says:

Kathi, it´s called Stolmen as far as I remember. Lucky you with the discount! All the parts are pretty cheap, but when you build it this big it still costs a bit.

  43. Lauren Says:

    Hey
If you are still looking for a good way to store your jewellery I suggest that you make a jewellery board with foam and covered in fabric. I had the same dilema and whipped this little beauty up at my father’s suggestion and all you need is some clear push pins and your jewellery will be organise and beautiful!
    Just an idea.
    Thanks

  44. Kate Says:

As a Christmas present, some family friends got me a jewelery hanger that is hand made. All it is just a 12″ by 12″ art canvas and is painted with hooks pushed in to hang necklaces (You can push hook earrings through it easily through the canvas). My mum and sister like the idea so they made their own. My mum put fabric on hers and my sister had a Bratz poster (she’s only 11) wrapped around hers. It’s a pretty good idea. You can wrap the pretty decorative paper that you used for the shoe boxes for the canvases.
