Ray Ban
Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Shopping
I can never seem to stop picking up new shades if I come across something special at flea markets or high street shops, and over the years I have build up quite a collection. Even though I have them in all kinds of different styles and colors, it´s the aviators that I most frequently wear. I figured I could just as well put some money in them and get a pair of Ray Ban aviators seeing that they are such classics. I had a look on eBay and I came across this shop selling them for no more than $9.99. The fact that they´re so cheap and that they are being shipped from China doesn´t really speak “authenticity” out loud. At that price it was too tempting not to give it a go though. I picked them up at the post office today and while I am no Ray Ban expert and even though they came with all kinds of proof of authenticity, I am still sceptical. That doesn´t really matter though, cause I do love the shades, although I would like to get a bigger pair as well.

I envy you those savvy shades. You look hippishly model-esque. I have a particular affinity for aviators. Kudos on your prized buy!

Thanks guys! Anybody here that are Ray Ban experts? It really doesn´t make a difference to me whether they are authentic or not, but it would be fun to know if anybody could sell authentic shades at that price. ;)

I don’t know if it’s just the photo, but they look very slightly lopsided; the right seems a bit smaller than the left and very subtly a different shape too - if this is the case, then they are not authentic shades, as Ray Bans are perfectly symmetrical…

Zumbai, I had to check to be sure, but that is only the angle the pictures are taken from, the shades are absolutely symmetrical. :)

cute, its funny how we spend $$$ on sunglasses and end up wearing the $5 ones the most.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Haha, so true. The ones I have worn the most over the years are from H&M!

I really need to get some contacts so I can actually wear sunglasses…

on the right hand side lens there should be a RB really small close to the outer edge. if yours have it then they are probably authentic..
i love cheap sunglasses, i have so many but my problem is that i am such a paranoid i am afraid the sunlight will hurt my eyes if i don’t wear polarized lenses and that’s when original raybans come to play!

I have several pairs(all I wear) and they came in soft cases, not like yours. Also the white writing on the rubber ear piece of your pair isn’t on mine. Rosa is right about the RB on the inside of the metal part of the ear piece. In tiny writing it should say RB, then the model #, then Aviator.
The best prices I’ve found are at http://www.eyesave.com
They have a huge selection of colors/sizes and are MUCH cheaper than in stores and are totally authentic.

the alterations on the pants are fantastic! shabby chic, for sure. the little extra wrinkles add a lot.

They look clearly fake, but they do look great on you, who cares?

If they turn out to be real let me know. I want a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers like nobody’s business. Those aviators are very cool, very Angelina Jolie.

Those glasses look awesome on you. When purchasing sunnies, it is buyer beware because a lower-quality pair could actually end up damaging your eyes since dark lenses make your pupils dilate but don’t provide adequate UV protection.

Thanks for the info all of you! I never expected them to be authentic, but I am still amazed that anybody can sell shades at $10 including the case and everything else and still make a living out of it!

Love those classic Ray Bans they look very cool :)

Hello! I am living in China right now and I’m sorry to report those are likely 99.9% fake (as to your expectations). Fake Ray Bans are very prevalent here. Some range in quality- the ones you have look to be on the better end of things (other ones have more ‘plastic’ frames). They have also expanded to selling fake wayfarers here, though they were way behind on the trend.
Your sunglasses would be approximately 3 US dollars at a market in Shanghai (after very fierce bargaining), but the price you got is still very good all things considered. That’s what most tourists end up paying here for the glasses (I’ve been living here for a while and have learned a wee bit-the hard way- about bargaining and how much things should cost), and you’ve saved yourself plane ticket money!
Let me know if you want another pair or if you want some faux wayfarers as well! They come in white, black and tortoiseshell.
I may end up posting some pictures in my blog later of things I’ve bought in China so if you have some time you should check it out!

oh! I should add that I love your site!

Those really suit you.

BTW, I got the proof they are nothing but fake. I was just about to throw away the little plastic tag and it reads: “Ray Ban Genjine sihce 1937″. I assume the real Ray Ban can spell right! ;)
