Red Boots
Filed in: Fashion, Secondhand, Shoes, Shopping
The weather was OK when I stepped outside the door this morning to go to the local flea market. All of a sudden it was pouring. By the time I got there people were frantically trying to save their things away from the water which wasn´t an easy task with the wind. I only took a quick look around and when I was about to rush back home I spotted these red leather boots. I didn´t intend to try them on and the seller obviously just wanted to get away from there and offered them to me for almost nothing. It all went really fast and suddenly I had purchased them.
Once I got home and tried them on I realized that they fit perfectly and were in mint condition. It was then I started thinking about when I am actually going to wear them. The color red seem to scare me a little. I got a gorgeous red coat last fall, but haven´t worn it once. I got it secondhand, it´s oversized but can be tied at the waist, and it looks very expensive compared to what I paid for it. But I don´t seem to know what to do with the color, it´s like it eats up everything else. It was probably not a bad idea getting them anyway, I just need to use it as an opportunity to learn how to think differently about colors and step away from all my personal hangups and dos and donts.

Red shoes of any kind are great. Once you start experimenting you’ll see that they go with so much. Not only will they compliment yellow, blue, purple etc. but they’ll give any neutral outfit a great color pop. Have fun!

I looove those boots! I have a similar-colored pair, and they fit well with my overall color scheme of desert yellow, forest green, plum purples, medium grey, navy blue, and browns. Try them with your AA acid wash tshirt (I have the same one =P)!

you’re so lucky !

They would be a nice pop of colour to your outfits. For example with the greyish (Cheap Monday?) jeans you have :) And they match your lipstick!

funny - the same happened to me today. well, not the boots, but the fleamarket-weather-thing. the same way you described it.

i love your boots! and once you start to wear them, you will loose your “fear” about red, i am sure. i got a bright red coat some time ago, the first time i wore it i was a bit worried, but it looks great and now its a no-brainer for me.
have a nice sunday!

I have a pair of red boots that I wear with skinny jeans and t-shirts. But I know what you mean - sometimes when I put them on I feel like my feet are suddenly very big and obvious.

Maybe you can check up polyvore.com? They have some sort of explorer where you can see how people have combined different colors. Search for red boots and voila!
Lykke til! Jeg synes bootsa var fantastiske :)

I have a pair of boot that are almost identical to these. I bought them several years ago. Mine are more like cowboy boots, and I wear them with jeans.

I’m so jealous I have been searching for affordable red boots forever but I got very small feet so I take what I can get. Someday…

Superstylish red boots:-

i think red would look awesome with your skin tone. also, try red-and-black. they don’t eat each other up, and i have a feeling you’d look stunning in it.

I know how you feel about red! It can be overwhelming to the max. I find that touches of red are easier for me than full pieces of clothing. I think the boots will be easier to handle than a coat[alot of red near the face can be scary!] and in general a pair of red shoes is always a fun statement.

You know you could just dye them with suitable leather dye… ask your local cobbler
April 6th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Agreed! Match ‘em to your lipstick and keep the rest of your outfit a bit more plain.

Thanks guys!
Suggestion, I hadn´t thought of that! I will keep them red for now at least, but it´s good to have in mind!

I have boots exactly like that, and have worn them a LOT this winter. Don’t worry about wearing bright colours like that - it just makes your day even better:-)

Oh, I would love to see those together with an outfit. Got a pair myself and need som fashioninsperation!

April 7th, 2008 at 1:16 am
great boots!!
April 7th, 2008 at 3:48 am
Oh you can’t dye those boots, that would be a CRIME! I cannot see you having a problem wearing those, they are going to look FABULOUS with whatever you come up with….they’re stunning!
April 7th, 2008 at 4:32 am
…looks like you scored again! These look very nice, I would say wear these with the whole outfit from the ‘Subway’ pictures on April 1st. You could switch out the tee if you wanted, but I like the mix of the blue and then the red. Oh, and throw on the little black Chanel bag you have with it.
A couple of yrs ago I scored a BRIGHT red cashmere long coat, and was scared to wear it too. The first time I dared, tho, people actually stopped me to ask about it and that the color was great. So go for it!

those boots are hot.. i agree with what everyone is saying here, wear red lipstick, plain outfit and these boots and you’ll look great!
April 7th, 2008 at 8:49 am
these boots look really feminine to me, even with no heel.they’re in good company with a short skirt, or even short shorts, or a minidress….and it’s true the colour may give the impressions of being the main character of the outfit but i’m sure you’ll be able to mix ‘em well with other pieces.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
oh my… you’ll do somethign wonderful with them!
one of my first pairs of boots were red. surprisingly versatile. but then again, i love red.

Red boots perfect for a gorgeus outfit:
A beige trench (and a small dress under), red gloves, red boots and a red headband.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
USE THE GOLD FRINGE BELT YOU BOUGHT TO NIP IN THE BELT!!!
Red looks great with golds, and navy blues. even with a nude coloured dress top.
or to ad a little interest try wrapping something like the belt around one of the ankles of the boots or cut up the belt get clasps and put one on each it can look really cute if done correctly

I have very similar boots that i rescued from my mom closet years ago. I wear them all the time with slim plack jeans and my favorite black biker t shirt that is nearlt torn to shreds.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
That shade of red is gorgeous. Aren’t you lucky it rained! Hurry up and put on the red coat, and post a pic. I’m sure you’ll look great!
April 8th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Red shoes go with nearly everything, better than black in my opinion. I own a red coat as well (not bright-red though, darker) and it goes well with everything as well. Besides, it’s nice not to be one of the grey/black/beige dressed masses.
April 9th, 2008 at 6:05 am
if you have a plaid dress its look nice with it, maybe with some grey knee socks popping out of the top. or something yellow, maybe.
April 10th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Nooo! don’t dye them! It’s fine to push your fashion boundaries. Plus, they remind me of the ones Ariel wears in ‘Footloose’.
