Detox

Filed in: Fashion, Food and Drinks, Home Decor

Today is a day for detox at our house and has mostly been spent in the bedroom. It started with getting the biggest mirror in the world. At least it´s huge. I was so tired of squatting down check out my outfits in the mirror of the vanity and figured it was about time to get a proper one. And this is with no doubt a proper mirror. I almost couldn´t sleep last night cause I was so excited of bringing it home today and since we finally got it I have barely left the room.

For a proper detox day, facial masks and lotions are a must. Today´s attire is all about comfort and I am wearing a vintage slip and woolen socks.

Healthy food is included, with avocado soup as a starter…

…and fruits and more of it for desert.

While the facial mask does it´s wonders I can admire the figurines I have started to collect for a future nursery.

And when the day comes to an end and I am all cleansed I can go to bed and dream sweet dreams right next to our very kitschy lamp.

Finally Done

Filed in: Fashion, Home Decor

We´ve been painting, cleaning and moving things around for three weeks and now we are finally pretty much done with the bedroom. Some minor details remain, but isn´t it always like that? What has taken so long is sanding down and painting each shelf of the storage system from Ikea. It took even longer than it should as we got the wrong color to begin with. It hasn´t been the best situation for a newlywed couple to put it mildly and a lot of fights have been thrown over this project.

What´s a little depressing now that we´re done is that I still don´t have enough room for all of my clothes. Especially dresses as we couldn´t spare anymore hanger space. I´m very pleased with the result though. It´s hard to capture everything as it´s pretty big, but I promised to you pictures so here we go.

We got a new chandelier as we didn´t even have a lamp in the bedroom before.

I decorated several boxes with nice paper to store all kinds of small things in.

The drawers are almost the best as I finally have somewhere to keep all my scarves, belts and panty hoses.

The next project will be finding a good way to store all of my jewelry which is still sitting on the dining table…

Julie Ege

Filed in: Celebs, Fashion, Home Decor

Julie Ege is a former Norwegian model and actress that has now ended up on my living room wall. She did several movies in the 60´s and 70´s and there are some amazing pictures of her out there with some great outfits. I love the look with the high waisted shorts.

Perfume Bottle Necklace

Filed in: Fashion, Home Decor, Jewelry, Secondhand, Shopping

Yesterday was a great day for shopping, today not so much. It´s raining and my hubby is out of town (he has quickly become my number one shopping partner and I value his opinions a great deal). The only thing I ended up getting was this $3 perfume bottle necklace. It needs a good polish, but then I think it will end up quite pretty.

My Home

Filed in: Fashion, Home Decor

Clothes have always been a big part of my home, from when I lived with my mom and sisters and clothes covered most of the floor in my room to when I later incorporated it more into my home decor. Since I suddenly ended up in apartment alone, I noticed that clothes started taking much more of the space at home. From dresses hanging on the wall, to underwear hanging from the antlers. It´s all part of the “slutty grandma” theme me and my boyfriend came up with together. The idea is an old lady who´s into cookies and the royal family and all that, but who used live a much harder life when she was young, and her earlier days kind of shines through in her apartment. I guess my stripper heels and granny dresses work well together in this atmosphere. These are just a few details of how my home looks like now, and I just had to include the pretty flowers I got from my parents-in-law. I have a lot more planned for the apartment, this is only the beginning.

mirrored dresser sminkebord

I´m marrying a man who loves shopping at least as much as I do and I am starting to fear the size of our future wardrobes and the need of a much bigger apartment to store everything in. Today, at the flea market, he spotted this dresser that he wanted me to buy. I was like “it´s nice, but I can´t really afford it, and we don´t really have anywhere to put it”. But as you can see, he managed to talk me into it. These mirrored dressers are so pretty and while they´re not really that practical, they give a little of that movie star feeling. I´ve always wanted one, and it´s kind of ironic that I needed a guy to make me buy one. It didn´t stop there though. I also saw a dress I kind of liked. I tried it on, but there were no mirrors, so I wasn´t sure if I wanted to buy it without seeing it first. Once again he managed to talk me into buying something by saying “trust me, you look great in it, you have to buy it”. It works both ways though, he´s just as easy to talk into spending money as I am. I guess we have to concider opening a shop in the future.

Colors

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Home Decor, Jewelry, Shopping

I woke up feeling completely color deprived. You know how it´s not smart to go to the grocery store when you´re hungry? It was like that with me today. I was prepared to spend all my money on colorful clothes. I went into a billion different shops. Usually I only go to H&M and a few thrift stores cause that´s really all I need, but today I tried out all the shops I usually never go to. I was so willing to leave money in all of them, but what stopped me was the shitty quality on a lot of it. I felt so color deprived that I was nearly about to buy clothes I knew would be ruined after one wash. I tried to stay reasonable and only ended up with three garments; an orange top, a purple shirt and a blue sweater. I guess you´ll see the garments in my outfit photos soon. I also got a few accessories, and to make myself feel a little better for the lack of suitable clothes, I got a couple of items for my home.

Time for Cake

Filed in: DIY, Home Decor, Secondhand

diy cookie plate I´m climbing out of bed a little after six in the morning every day this week, and I get home at night. My mind has kind of wandered off topic a little bit as there´s really no joy in getting dressed that early in the morning. I read an article today about redesigned vintage and what caught my attention wasn´t the clothes, but the cute tier cake plates. I figured that with the right kind of glue (that I´ve already tracked down) and some cheap plates and glasses from a thrift shop, I can easily make this myself. I went to H&M to have a look and found a ton of great dresses, but they all looked like crap on me, so I found much more joy in looking for used plates. At least I know there´s cake at work tomorrow, and then it´s weekend and my life is back to normal again.

A Couple More

Here are a couple of online secondhand stores I have forgotten to add to my list.

Plaid Pony Vintage

A big selection of vintage clothing organized in sizes which makes the hunt easier. The best part however is maybe the housewares section where you find the most unbelievable items at low prices. Also check out the DVF bag.

DIY: Fabric Art

fabric art pictures

At flea markets I often come across nice scraps of fabric but I’m not really sure what to do with them. We needed something to hang on the walls so I decided to make a few pictures.

I bought three cheap canvases, cut the fabric to fit them, and nailed them on to the wooden frame. Since the fabric had a repeating pattern I wanted it to go through all the three pictures. Pictures like this can be an idea for old clothes you love the fabric of that don’t fit you, old curtains or anything that you have lying around. I payed about $20 for all three canvases, but in cheaper stores you can get away for way less.

Who Says Money Can’t Buy Happiness?

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Home Decor

Meet the newest items that make me smile.

quilted purse Life is simply not the same after I won this purse on eBay. When I think back I can’t imagine how it was like not having it. I have used it both times I went clubbing this weekend, and both mornings after I woke up terrified I had lost it. It’s still here with me and that makes me happy.
dress H&M This dress is from H&M. When I saw it I knew I couldn’t continue life without it. It had just been put out on the racks. Once I grabbed it people came to ask me where to find it. Seconds later all the dresses were gone. I had to borrow money from a friend, which I hate doing, but this time I had to look past that. (Thanks Katt for lending me the money!)
lamp This lamp was quite a bargain. I have always felt like my life would be just a little bit better if I had a white plastic lamp from the 60’s. They are usually expencive so those thoughts were well hidden. I found this at a flea market and paid a dollar for it. It’s like my little baby. I check on it now and then and never walk by it without smiling. Once I brought it into the apartment my life started to change to the better.
owl This owl notes holder has been in my family for ages. One of our relatives in USA made it back in the 60’s and gave it to my mom. In 2005 she gave it away thinking its time had passed. I had no idea this had happened, but one day I suddenly found it in a secondhand store and I bought it back. I never knew it was missing, but now that it is back I can’t imagine not having it in my life.
IMG_2513.JPG How I have longed for a belt like this. Even though they are quite common I just never seemed to find one. And what else can you do in a situation like that than to turn to eBay? It’s so great when you find those items you have been searching years for, it’s like your life just gets a little bit closer to being complete.

Having made all these great finds lately, you can imagine I am a happy person!

eBay Sellers

Filed in: Accessories, Fashion, Handbags, Home Decor, Jewelry, Links, Secondhand, Shoes, Shopping

I want to start a little project here. eBay is so huge it’s sometimes hard to shop unless you know exactly what you want. I have gathered a few sellers that I have either bought from or kept an eye on. I hope you guys will share your favorite sellers as well so that I in the end can make a huge post with all the sellers you’ll ever need. It will help both you and me to track down the best of it. I’ll start with a few and you can post your favorite sellers as comments to this post.

Exile Vintage

I’ve already mentioned this eBay store. Here you’ll find lots of vintage clothes, mostly dresses, that usually start at $9.99.

Le Robo

Beautiful vintage apparel that starts at $14.99. Some of these sell out a little expencive in the end, but if you keep an eye out I bet it’s possible to make a bargain.

mama store vintage

Mama Stone Vintage

This store provides lovely clothes starting at around $9.99. All are very well documented with tons of pictures and is probably so far my favorite on eBay.

Pandora’s Pout

Tons of lovely jewelry at low prices. Here you’ll find pretty little bird necklaces or edgy flash earrings.

Frhapsody

Mostly vintage houswares with a nice selection of Scandinavian designs from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, you’ll also find fabrics and accessories.

Tama Pieces

More jewelry in much of the same spirit as Pandora’s Pout. The prices are also good here. I especially love the anchor necklaces.

secondhand fashion ebay

Timeless Vixen

I love this one. Items start at $12 but you will have to expect to pay a bit more. This store has alot of great stuff though.

Trashy Magazine

If you want to copy celebs this is the store of your choice. You’ll mostly find accessories, but some clothes as well.

Peanuts Charms

Charms, charms, charms, and some other stuff. What I like about this though is that you’ll find charms and pendants out of the ordinary, like golden caravans.

These are mine, now let’s see yours!

Fashion as Home Decor #2

Filed in: DIY, Home Decor, Misc

After the previous post on this topic I kept thinking of more ways to decorate your home in a fashion theme. I remembered something I had seen on a trip to Berlin a couple of years ago, and I came up with this:

fashion binders pin up

It’s a picture cut in three to pump some style up in those old binders. They are usually so depressing and ugly, but now I think they look quite nice. I chose an old pin-up picture, and you can find tons of them on The Pin-up Page. But anything will of course work. Resize the picture in Photoshop so that it fits your binders, print it, cut it in pieces and glue them on.
